NlightN – Here We Stand

Consider why inspirational LDS music is so appealing; much like the doctrine that inspires it, gospel music can contain heavenly insights that bring significant comfort and peace to weary souls. For that reason, we concede that Sabbath music is compared on a separate scale than contemporary albums. Its intent is to bring thoughts of the Savior, to comfort the restless, and to revisit steps of the listener's spiritual progression. Gospel is much different than folk or pop, where high marks go to those who reinvent their sound, diversify their song structure, and find new ways to package the same three chords. Because inspirational music enhances one's spirituality, a reviewer such as myself is less concerned about a unique sound.

With that, the sounds of NlightN's first album, Here We Stand, glow with profound scriptural messages. The male quartet resonates firm convictions with deep, mature vocals. Each song is an enthusiastic ballad that conveys timely spiritual messages. Choosing the best tracks is difficult since each has a solid theme and sounds similar: vocals backed by piano and occasional light orchestration. Still, the brazen testimonies on Chosen For All Time and Here We Stand leap out with each listen. There is a definite lack of variety on the record, but anyone who seeks the power of enlightenment should enjoy this collection.
