Recommended Browser
This site works with most browsers. However, it is optimized for use with Internet Explorer 5. If you are using this browser, and you have set your preferences accordingly,
mp3 files should download in the "download manager" window, and audio samples should play immediately following a short download, within a new small window.

What is mp3?
Songs for download are provided in mpeg layer 3 format (.mp3), which utilizes a compression technology to reduce the file size by a factor of ten with very little audio degradation. Audio is 16 bit, 44 kHz, stereo. To download the mp3 files, simply click on the link. The download will take 15 minutes or longer for conventional modems, but only seconds for broadband connections. The size of each song in MB is indicated.

Downloading mp3s - "listen in another application" - recommended
If you want to download a song, and listen to it after it downloads in another application, choose edit --> preferences --> receiving files --> file helpers --> then select the "mp3 audio" file helper. Double-click to open, and under "how to handle", choose "post-process with application", then choose the application you want. Or you can choose "save to file", and open it later in the application.

Playing mp3s - "listen within browser" - not recommended
If you want to listen to a song immediately after it downloads, within the browser, choose edit --> preferences --> receiving files --> file helpers --> then select the "mp3 audio" file helper. Double-click to open, and under "how to handle", choose "view with browser". The problem with this choice is that you cannot perform any functions within the window during the download (unless you specifically open the link in another window), and downloads can be long. Also, you will need to specifically save the file before closing the new browser window, or the song will not reside on your hard drive.

Listening to samples (real audio format)
Some samples are provided in the Real Audio format (.ra, .rm, .ram). These samples will play almost immediately. This is a streaming format, meaning the music is transferred as it plays. Keep in mind that the sound quality is poor with this format. Preferences: edit --> preferences --> receiving files --> file helpers --> select each of the "Real Audio" file helpers. Double-click to open, and under "how to handle", choose "view with browser".

MP3 players
Here's a list of mp3 players for Mac, and for Windows.

Purchasing the music
LDS Music World encourages commercial transactions between musicians and listeners. Links to the musicians' web pages have been clearly indicated to promote the purchase of their music. The internet, mp3, and broadband have brought about the capability of direct downloads of music via the internet. These technologies permit musicians to showcase and distribute their music to a wide array of listeners, which was never before possible. The current revolution in the distribution of music has the potential to threaten the income of musicians who produce high quality material. Listeners are encouraged to visit the websites of musicians and purchase the music they like.
