More About Stephanie Smith

Stephanie Smith is recognized by her unique lyrics and perspectives. “I like to describe my music as acoustic pop” said Smith, who began writing songs when she was eight years old. On her first trip to Nashville, one Music Row publisher called her an “incredible lyricist.” Fans agree: “You have a clever way with lyrics that feels fresh, yet honest. Your voice is unique and you don’t sound like a million other singers,” said one fan in a recent email.

One of Smith’s songs was recently selected by Tonos.com for consideration and submission to Emmy-award winner Yolanda Adams. Tonos.com, a popular site for songwriters, was founded by Grammy winners Carole Bayer Sager, David Foster and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Smith is also in the midst of writing and recording material for her second album at Soularium Studio, which will be released later this summer.

Stephanie Smith began performing at age 5 in a children's show choir called Kids R Music. She also began taking piano lessons at about the same time. Even from the start, Stephanie had a great desire to compose, and to perform as a soloist. Her first piano teacher, Collen Mangus, had to make a deal with her the she first needed to play the song as it was written, then she could perform her improvisations at recitals. By the time she reached her teens she was writing and performing her original songs.

The first time she was able to perform for a large audience was at a Teenworks conference talent show in Southern California in the spring of 1999. There she played one of the first songs she wrote called Rose for over 600 of her peers and adult leaders. Stephanie was amazed at the response, as other Teenwork members clapped, cheered, even stood on their chairs in standing ovation for her performance. Another performer told her later that evening,"You have a gift girl, a gift from God. You need to share that gift with the world." Since that time, song writing has become her passion.

She began training in Classical music, at age 13 for technique, under the direction of Cheryl Brown, founder of the Northern California Conservatory. Stephanie won many awards for her Classical Music performances Although she appreciates her accomplishments as a classical and theater performer, her desire to write her own music has remained her focus. It's difficult for Stephanie to put a name on her writing style. The closest definition she has come up with is acoustic pop.

Stephanie began recording her first original music at Sound Farm Studios in Vacaville CA at age 15. She also had the incredible experience of doing a a live 30 minute performance on a Berkley Radio station. Since that time she has written over 60 songs, including a musical presentation that introduced a Youth Conference Theme. She is amember of NSAI. She briefly trained vocally with Judith Lynn Favero, a NSAI coordinator, and is currently co-writing with Jeannine Lasky. She has been called an incredible lyrisist, by Island Bound Publishing of Music Row in Nashville. Stephanie will be graduating High School this May and then will go on to college to finish her degree . She already has over 25 units of college credits including advanced music theory. Stephanie has a sensitivity to the current issues that challenge todays youth, and she loves the power found in music to touch the lives of others. She has had the privilege of serving as a mentor through Friday Nite Live to high risk youth and has helped with educational programs, including Teenworks as a California Youth Council member. She recently completed a demo CD and is currently working on a full production CD. She looks forward to the many opportunities that await her in sharing her gift, whatever they may be.
