More about Simple People Simple People combine folk sensibility with groove-heavy rock n‚ roll. Blending tenor/baritone harmonies with guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass and drums, the five-piece band has perfected a mix of straightforward rock with a folk and bluegrass tinge. Known for putting on high-energy shows with a laid-back groove, the band comes across as an amalgamation of Dave Mathews and James Brown with a little Townes Van Zandt thrown in for good measure. This broad mix makes for a lively show with the band moving from fragile love songs to resolute rockers to rhythm-drenched jams. "I hate coming up with a label for our music," says guitarist/vocalist Dan Cutler. "We don't write our songs around a certain musical genre or whether radio will play it. We‚re just trying to get out what‚s inside us and sometimes that comes out funky, or folky, or rocky or whatever." Simple People will release a new album early next year titled, "What We Meant from the Beginning." This recording presents the bands eclectic sound bridging rock music with traditional instrumentation. Hurtado explains the bands excitement with this album, "This is our first label release. Roots Records has given us an excellent producer, engineers and studio to create our finest work to date. We have finally captured our sound." The last year has seen a lot of changes in the band. What started out as a hobby has now turned into a full-time job for most of the band members. " None of us are making enough money from the band to run out and buy new cars and I still live in the same apartment," Says Cutler. "But it's great to be able to devote all your energy to doing something you love."
