Masa Fukuda / Jeannine Lasky
Masa Fukuda's Christmas song "Innocence of Youth" took 1st place in the John Lennon-Yoko Ono International Dream Power music contest in Japan.

"It Just Takes Love" is now available again from LDS Music World for download, after being removed for a short period of time. The song has been one of the most downloaded selections from this website. The original version of the song was selected for the 2002 Olympic CD: "Light Up the Land", a commemorative CD of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, released from r3radio.com.

Masa Fukuda made his entrance into the music industry as a composer and quickly became known for his 1,621-voice "monster-size" children's choir. His audience finds his music soothing in its own distinctive way, which introduces pure and innocent voices of little children as part of the instrumentation. He encompasses a variety of musical genres ranging from Baroque classical to contemporary / pop.

The Power Within
Featuring 1,621 children's voices - the largest choir ever recorded in pop music! The Power Within is a musical celebration of the strength of the human spirit. The lyrics are crafted to convey messages of love, courage, faith, and the power to live together in peace and harmony. Producer Greg Hansen calls The Power Within "a significant inspirational achievement." Two of the songs from the CD were performed as the openings of the 2001 General Women's Conference at BYU - a very rare opportunity for the first CD from a brand new artist!

The Power Within was released on February 24, 2001 at Mckay Center, UVSC where 4,000 people attended - the kids, their parents and their families, and sold over 2,000 copies the first day. (Refer to THE DAILY HERALD, June 3, 2001). Available at Deseret Book, Missionary Emporium, BYU bookstore, Media Play, and many LDS bookstores throughout the nation, as well as their websites.

Masa Fukuda was born and raised in Osaka Japan. At the age of 8 he passed the entrance exam to the top music program in Japan, the Yamaha Special Course. During this 4-year intensive course, Masa wrote over 100 original compositions. Several received regional and national recognition. At 16, Masa came to the United States to study advanced music at the Meridian School in Utah. He was awarded a scholarship at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He enjoys being in America, which gives him the ultimate freedom to express his feelings in his very unique compositional style.

In the fall of 2000 Masa embarked on a most ambitious project, the production of the CD, The Power Within. Inspired by the song "Angels Among Us" from the country group ALABAMA, Masa had previously began working with veteran Nashville songwriter Jeannine Lasky. Award winning producer, Greg Hansen, was hired to arrange and produce the project. The Power Within includes the vocal talents of Paul Engemann, Jenny Jordan Frogley, Alex Boye, Randy Porter, and many more. Most importantly, it features the voices of over 1,600 school-aged children, gathered from 69 elementary schools in Utah Valley. Masa says, "Their sincere voices have so much to offer, not only to create fun, but really reach and heal the wounded soul of all that come in contact with them." Masa intends to make this a tradition and produce a series of CDs over a long period of time, introducing thousands of school children to the music industry. The Power Within is the Volume 1.

Jeannine Lasky has been writing music for over 25 years. Her songwriting career has included: the original musical theatre production, "Reachin' For a Star," writing music for an aerobics album for the national fitness company, Image Dynamics Inc., writing and producing the theme song for the Christmas Box House, a national charitable organization for abused children, teaching songwriting in the Utah area including elementary school children, and one-on-one tutoring for beginning songwriters. For the past three years she has been serving as the Salt Lake City regional workshop coordinator for Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), conducting monthly songwriting workshops for local NSAI members. She is presently writing and producing music that will accompany value-centered children's books for the company "Hearts of the Children." Jeannine is the owner and president of the music publishing company, Gambel Oak Publishing, Inc. In addition to her music responsibilities, she is a wife and mother of three children.

The "Stuidio4kids" program is a no-audition, cost-free, one-time opportunity designed to reach out to children who LOVE singing but have never had a chance to sing on a commercial CD. It is intended: (1) to educate school children about recording studios and what it takes to produce a CD, (2) to help them gain confidence by getting them involved in a major production, and (3) to motivate them in their pursuit to develop their musical talent. During the production of The Power Within, Masa was able to obtain approval from three school districts in the Utah Valley to contact each school and introduce this program to the children. He literally visited every one of 69 elementary schools in the county and worked with 1,621 children during the period of 10 weeks. The word spread very quickly, and the response from the community was radically positive. Parents were ecstatic as they witnessed their children sing with the headphones on, while the staff treated them as professionals. Children, in turn, gained knowledge, self-confidence, and the joy of being an important part of a production. Because of the success Masa had with this project, he wants to extend out to other regions, giving thousands of children an opportunity to be involved in his coming projects. One day, he may come to your school!

Lyrics

It Just Takes Love

You and I live underneath the same big sky
In separate worlds, just trying to survive.
Lost in ourselves, we can't keep up with the human race.

You and I, like the mighty redwoods stand
Side by side, connected by the land,
We build our strength through others' lives
By joining hearts and hands.

We can move mountains
And bridge any ocean.
We know there are miracles
When we give our love.
The power within us,
Beyond explanation,
Can change the world.
It just takes love.

You and I, like the ripples in the pond,
Can reach out and touch all those around.
If we take the time to care,
We'll be on higher ground.

(chorus)

Take my hand, let's join together.
We can make a better world.
My heart, and your heart, too
Must be open to make this come true.

(Spanish, Japanese, French, Russian)

(chorus x3)

Note on "It Just Takes Love."
When all the women gathered again for Afternoon Session, Jenny Jordan Frogley stepped forward and completely blew the audience away with the inspirational anthem, It Just Takes Love. She was accompanied by a choir of 70 children dressed up in various costumes from foreign countries.

You Can

He picks up his baseball and runs away
He blinks back the tears while he hears them say
"You know you’re such a loser,
And you throw like you are three."
I shoulda stood up for him
And said what I believed

You can rise above their limits
You can get back on your feet
You can find the strength inside
To reach the highest peak
Nothing in this world is better than
When you believe the voice inside
That says, "You can."

She shook out her fingers and tried again
Her soul felt the music, but her hands just wouldn’t bend
The crowd grew uneasy
As she quickly left the stage
And my heart could feel her pain
As this song inside me played

*
You can rise above your limits
You can get back on your feet
You can find the strength inside
To reach the highest peak
Nothing in this world is better than
When you believe the voice inside
That says, "You can."

La la la…

*Repeat

La la la…

Because of You

You let me stumble when I was learning to walk.
Then you’d wipe away my tears.
You never fought my fights but helped me to face
All my fears.

I was always right until proven wrong
But never heard "I told you so."
I see it clear after all these years.
Now I want you to know
That because of you…

CHORUS
I am strong.
I can find my way.
I can spread my wings and fly
And know I’ll be okay.
By letting go
I realize one simple truth.
But I guess I always knew,
I’m who I am
Because of you.

It must’ve been hard to watch me make mistakes,
But you took it all in stride.
Even though you didn’t catch me when I’d fall,
You were always by my side,
And because of you…

There comes a time when everything moves on,
I know one day I’ll find you gone.
My heart will ache to see your face,
But I’ll still have the will to carry on
All because of you…
