CREATION OF "UNSUNG HEROES TESTIFY" One night, sometime back in April of 2001, as I was playing the piano, I thought to myself, where are the songs about the heroes of heroes? Has anyone written them yet? Wouldnt even a great hero like Joseph Smith have a hero of his own? Those questions sank deep in my heart and I committed myself to follow those impressions. As such, my wife and I spent many Sunday afternoons, and family nights, reading stories and studying from the scriptures, creating a list of our Unsung Heroes. Each song was then written with much thought and prayer, in an attempt to truly convey the testimony of the hero who would be singing. Once the words were written to the songs, the process of carefully creating melodies, writing the music for the many various instruments, and the actual act of recording the album flowed to completion. One true success of the album is the sweet blend of the male and female vocalists. Aaron Ballard and Brent Slade of NlightN shine like never before, and female vocalists Cheryl Bennett and Linsey Brinkerhoff soothe and inspire the soul. Many other talented musicians helped to make this music even better, by volunteering their time and talents on a variety of instruments. Most notably, Cindy Whatcott and Alissa Peterson, who played an integral role in editing the music for the strings and winds. Giving countless hours of his time, Dan Soelberg generously created and composed the entire design and layout for the album. Dan truly captured the essence of the Unsung Heroes. The concept of the album is simple, but I wrote it only hoping to help bless the lives of others. I am grateful for all that I have been given, and for the past year that I have had to spend all of my time and energy bringing to life the testimonies of so many great men and women. |
