About
Janice Kapp Perry
Janice Kapp Perry was born in Ogden, UT, raised in Vale, Oregon,
and currently lives in Provo, Utah. She is married to Douglas Perry
and they have five children and 13 grandchildren. Janice received
her musical training at Brigham Young University in Provo, then
set it aside for almost 20 years while she raised her children.
In the late 1970's she got her "two lucky breaks" as she
calls themęshe broke her ankle while playing basketball, and the
family TV broke. While recuperating from her injuries, and with
nothing to do, her bishop asked her to write original music for
the ward roadshow, and she was off and running. Janice has been
writing music for 21 years. She composed the hymn "As Sisters
in Zion" for the LDS hymnbook and has ten songs published in
the Primary songbook. She recently retired from the Mormon Tabernacle
Choir after 5 1/2 years. She received the Ricks College Exemplary
Woman Award in 1994, and the BYU Alumni Distinguished Service Award
in 1997. She and Doug enjoy traveling around the country doing firesides.
Janice has now produced over 40 albums and songbooks, 10 cantatas,
two full-length musicals, and is currently co-writing with Senator
Orrin Hatch. |
